Columbus Ohio Beer and Hockey

On March 12th we left Pittsburgh for Columbus, OH. We first stopped in Steubenville, OH to hit up the Valley Wine Cellar for our first beer stop. The selection was okay but nothing special. We continued on for Columbus and arrived at Barley's Smokehouse and Brewpub. 5 samplers and one sampler glass pyramid later we were on our way to the Penguins game. A quick stop at the hotel and dinner at BD Mongolians and then the Nationwide Arena. The Penguins lost but we got the overtime loss point. We headed back to the hotel to find a bar to drink away our sorrows. That bar ended up being Bodega. This place was a little trendy but they had an impressive tap list so we were happy. Had some good local Columbus beer and a few favorites. My wife fell in love with the Chocolate Covered Raspberry, a black and tan concoction of Young's Double Chocolate Stout and Lindeman's Framboise! The White Castle across the street ended our night and we got a good night's sleep to prepare for the marathon of beer and food the next day!!

We arose early to make it to the Ohio Deli for the Dagwood Challenge. After eating 5lbs of food in 30 minutes I wasn't ready for beer but beer shopping wasn't out of the question. We traveled all over the Columbus metro area and hit 8 different beer stores!

Grapes of Mirth
Kenny Road Markey
The Anderson's General Store
Whole Foods
Trader Joes
From The Vine
Palmer Beverage
Blacklick Wine and Spirits

We came back with an impressive beer haul all tucked away in the trunk of the rental minivan. Pictures and reviews can be viewed in the links below.
